Worship Services
First time attending
Walking into a new place and seeing a bunch of new faces is intimidating! Take that step and we’ll do our best to make you feel welcome and included.
- People of all ages and stages of life attend Maranatha! Single, married, divorced, young, old, no kids, lots of kids, immigrants, refugees, believers, skeptics, seekers and more!
- Know how to get here: Maranatha Church, 6553 Portsmouth Road, Nanaimo, BC
- Sunday service starts at 10:00am (arrive 15 minutes early to check-in your kids).
- Most people wear casual clothes to church these days.
- Make a decision about attending… and even though it might be scary… go for it!
What to expect
Have kids? At the far end of the Lobby is our Kid’s Check-in Desk. If it’s your first time you’ll need to complete a registration form for each kid. If you’re returning, please use the self check-in kiosk. Kids will stay with you through the first part of this service, and will be dismissed part way through.
Find a seat in the Auditorium. The service starts at 10am. Folks will stand and sing a few songs led by the band on stage. Then a service host will offer a prayer and some announcements. Following the announcements a Pastor will share a talk from the Bible. Typically, the service will end with a closing song and an invitation to come up for prayer (if you want). Once a month we have communion (a practice for Christians by which we remember Jesus’ death on the cross). It’s common to have other elements in a service as well (i.e. water baptism, child dedication, etc.).
We aim to be friendly, so you can expect either before or after the service for one or two people to come up and introduce themselves.
After the service, head home or linger around and meet some people.
Make a plan to come back each week. This weekly rhythm of being a part of a church is a good thing. Over time you may feel comfortable attending a mid-week event or even an upcoming class or small group.
